RECOFTC in Myanmar

RECOFTC has supported community forestry development in Myanmar since its establishment, yet the recent unprecedented changes in the country in terms of developing broader political democracy and hence opening up to commercial and development investments from other countries has expanded both the opportunities and challenges for community forestry in Myanmar and the potential for RECOFTC to support its further development. For example, Myanmar is ranked 6th amongst ASEAN member states for deforestation, whilst >80% of the country’s population continue to rely on forests for supporting their livelihoods.
