REDD: Preparing the GrassrootsWith support from Norad, RECOFTC is responding to the needs of grassroots stakeholders by delivering an interactive and participatory training program designed to build local capacity to engage in REDD.
The training program introduces REDD, with a focus on its relevance and implications for poverty alleviation, livelihood security, rural development, and roles and potential benefits for local people.
By building the capacity of in-country trainers to deliver REDD training at district and grassroots levels, the program will help close information gaps. Reaching grassroots forest stakeholders with appropriate and accessible REDD information will better position them to meaningfully engage in REDD debates and discussions, understand the potential implications, and make informed decisions.

This project is being implemented in Indonesia, Lao PDR, and Nepal, and furthers the work from a series of pilot trainings RECOFTC conducted in 2009 with support from SDC. The training program will be continuously updated to fit country-specific contexts and the evolving development of REDD mechanisms. Results and findings will be communicated widely, to share experiences and provide key inputs to national REDD planning processes.
