Field Visit, Country Presentations, and Call for ActionOn Day 2 of the Forum, participants traveled a few hours out of Hanoi to Hoa Binh, the location of a Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) project. Divided into three groups they discussed the project with farmers, project staff, and the forest development fund committee.
The visit set the scene for Day 3, where the Forum spent the morning looking at the real life application of carbon-financing initiatives and began with a recap of lessons learned from the trip.
To round off the morning, five country presentations revealed valuable lessons from national and local-scale carbon projects in the region. Each took a different angle; a case from Lamdong looked at water as a specific environmental service, while from Nepal, the issue of institutional structures required for UN-REDD readiness was explored. The presentations were followed by a Q&A session and panel discussion.
During the final afternoon, participants were divided into three groups to develop a Call for Action for post-Forum work. Each group was asked to devise and prioritize important action points for national governments, the international community, private sector, and civil society to undertake in the leadup to Copenhagen and beyond. To help with this process, a key messages/conclusions summary from the previous two-and-a-half days work was distributed.
