With the severe flooding in Thailand, never before have we been so aware of the value of our forests. Much more than just sources of timber and other forest products, they protect our watersheds, biodiversity, the air we breathe, and play a critical role in the global fight against climate change and natural disaster prevention.

Celebrating Forests for People was the theme of the UN International Year of Forests 2011 and, BIFFF aims to keep the focus on forests and forest communities by screening 12 powerful films during 18-19 February 2012 from the award-winning International Forest Film Festival held in New York.

The festival, which also marks 25 years of RECOFTC’s dedicated work for people and forests, is jointly sponsored by the Royal Forest Department, Thailand Knowledge Park (TK Park), Thai PBS and RECOFTC. TK Park has generously agreed to host the BIFFF at their mini-theater on the 8th Floor of Central World and a forestry and plants exhibition that will coincide with the duration of the BIFFF. The BIFFF is organized with the support from the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (Norad) and the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) and in association with the Jackson Hole Wildlife Film Festival.

The screening schedule and synopsis of the films can be seen below.  We will also have an Opening Night at TK Park on the evening of 17 February where two selected films, Hope in a Changing Climate and Voices of the Forest – Thailand will be shown.  This will be followed by a brief roundtable discussion. The media, celebrities, partners and interested individuals are invited to join.
