RECOFTC is pleased to announce the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with the ASEAN Social Forestry Network (ASFN) on 12 August 2009. This agreement opens new avenues for strengthened cooperation to support social forestry development in Southeast Asia.
Collaboration between RECOFTC and ASFN dates back to 2005, when RECOFTC participated in the ASEAN Workshop on Social Forestry held in Madiun, East Java, Indonesia. Most recently, the two organizations coorganized a side-event: Social Forestry Roles in Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation, during the Third Meeting of the ASEAN Social Forestry Network (ASFN) in Subic, Philippines. Joint work in the near future will focus on capacity building, improving regional knowledge management and sharing, and raising public awareness.
