Two days training instigated on 25th March 2019 regarding ‘Safe Chainsaw Operation and Maintenance’ was successfully accomplished on 26th March 2019 with the active participation of 18 trainees under ACIAR’s Enhancing Livelihood from Improved Forest Management in Nepal (EnLiFT) project. Present in event was Dr. Edwin Cedamon; Dr. Naya Sharma Paudel and; Mr. Shambhu Pd. Dangal representing ACIAR, ForestAction Nepal, and RECOFTC respectively (Project Collaborators).

Core objective of the training was to equip forest technicians with several skills on safe chainsaw operation during timber felling and logging and to demonstrate participants regarding chainsaw maintenance. The facilitators demonstrated the practical application of Chainsaw, its function and its maintenance procedures.

At the end of the training, participants expressed that, using chainsaw is very new and emerging technology in Nepal. Even though using chainsaw seems easy and relatively old technique outside Nepal; it was figured out by the forest technicians that the process is very tough and needs rigorous and continuous practice to perfect the method. In spite of its comfort in handling and less manual effort than indigenous technology the technique is not extensively used throughout the country due to lack of manpower and expertise to produce more chainsaw users.

At the end of the event, participants were awarded with a certificate of participation. Similar training is scheduled in second week April 2019 in Kavrepalanchowk.

The overall training was facilitated by Dr. Edwin Cedamon and Mr. Shambhu Dangal.
