Don't miss Bangkok's first ever People & Forests Fair at the Bangkok Art & Culture Center on 31 January 2016.

When: Sunday, January 31st 2016, 11am - 7pm

Where: Bangkok Art & Culture Center (BACC), BTS National Stadium Station exit No.3

Celebrate the diversity and richness of both nature and the activities of local communities in sustaining urban & rural forest areas and learn how everyone can become part of the solution.

Various exhibitions providing a glimpse into the life of forest communities in Thailand will be on display. Sustainable forest products - arts, crafts, forest foods and ingenious local creations - from Bangkachao, Bangkok’s urban forest, as well as other communities from around the country will be on sale.

As part of the all-day fair, RECOFTC will hold  a panel discussion entitled “Forest protection begins with me” hosted by Zcongklod Bangyikhan, editor-in-chief of A Day magazine. Panelists including urban and rural forest community members, local community rights advocates, Bangkok-based greenspace campaigners and marketing and forest management experts who will discuss their roles in sustainably managing forests and how each of us can support the community forest movement.  Dr. Somsak Sukwong, known to many in Thailand as the “Father of Community Forestry”, will be the guest of honor and open the panel.

Student Workshop @3pm - Prizes on offer!

Students are invited to participate in an interactive workshop to provide creative ideas for exhibitors at the Fairto better develop their products for the urban market.

The winning team will be treated to an all expense-paid bicycle trip to Bangkachao. Traveling with local community tour guides on the famous bike trail, students will learn first hand about life in one of the last few remaining forest areas close to the sprawling Bangkok metropolis.

Chanokmont Ruksakiati, an expert in product design, together with representatives from each local community, will decide the winning team.
