Women and Land Management

In Asia, while women play central roles in the use, management and conservation of forest resources and agricultural lands, they are often excluded from land management decision-making. Customary practices and widespread perceptions that the forest and land-related sectors are more “suitable for men” result in women’s lack of opportunities to take part in landscape decision-making, lack of access to financial services, and lack of ownership of land.

RECOFTC and WOCAN have developed this infographic to highlight the discussions and recommendations of the Regional Dialogue on Women’s Inclusion in Landscape Management, held in October 2014 in Thailand. The dialogue brought together 40 participants from 10 countries, representing indigenous peoples, local communities, producer organizations, development assistance agencies, forestry departments of national governments, certification bodies, researchers and NGOs.
