RECOFTC empowers communities in forest landscapes to address climate change through sustainable forest management, biodiversity conservation and strengthened adaptive capacities.

The Asia-Pacific region is highly vulnerable to climate change, experiencing more frequent and severe weather events such as floods, droughts, heatwaves and forest fires. These environmental crises exacerbate deforestation, biodiversity loss and social inequalities, impacting the livelihoods of millions of people dependent on forest landscapes. Despite these challenges, forest landscapes offer opportunities for addressing climate change through sustainable management and community-led approaches.

Community forestry can provide economic benefits while supporting climate adaptation and mitigation efforts. Access to diverse financing sources, including climate and conservation finance, can be transformative for communities when combined with capacity building and support for transparent financial management. 

At RECOFTC, we:

• support community-led approaches to forest management, ensuring that local communities have the rights and capacities to manage their forests sustainably
• facilitate access to climate and conservation finance, while providing capacity-building programmes to help communities manage finances transparently and benefit from these funds
• adopt a landscape approach that integrates forests with other land uses, fostering collaboration among diverse stakeholders to implement sustainable practices
• work with governments and international organizations to advocate for policies that support community forestry and sustainable forest management, aligning with global initiatives like the Paris Agreement
