Funded by the Forest and Farm Facility of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, this project is designed to strengthen policy and institutional frameworks to ensure that community forestry in Nepal remains responsive to evolving socioeconomic, political and environmental contexts.  

The project has two main components. The first is institutional strengthening, achieved through the development of discussion papers, and a policy brief that offers recommendations for government and community forest user groups to improve community forestry governance. The second focuses on preparing a comprehensive, evidence-based project document to mobilize resources for community-centred forest fire management.

Through a series of technical discussions and policy dialogues, the project will produce policy and discussion papers with clear, time-bound recommendations to improve institutional and operational mechanisms at the community level and for government institutions. These outcomes will be integrated into the five-year strategy of the Federation of Community Forest Users of Nepal, reinforcing its policy and advocacy agenda and guiding community forest user groups to strengthen their governance systems.  

In parallel, the project will take a participatory, evidence-based approach to develop a detailed project document on forest fire management. This integrated process will generate actionable knowledge and foster collaborative partnerships to advance community-centred forest fire management in Nepal.
