This project conducted a feasibility assessment for a potential carbon project in the eastern Inle Lake landscape of Myanmar, covering 4,250 hectares across 26 certified community forests (CFs) in the East Inle Reserve Forest. The primary objectives were to collect comprehensive social and environmental data through focus group discussions, household interviews and forest inventory. This information was crucial for producing a report that would inform the development of a project design document for a potential carbon credits initiative.
The assessment aimed to evaluate the viability of implementing a carbon credits project in the region. Gathering detailed data on the local ecosystem and community dynamics was essential for laying the groundwork for future carbon sequestration efforts. This initiative represents a key step towards sustainable forest management and climate change mitigation in Myanmar, potentially opening avenues for community-based carbon credit programmes in the Inle Lake area. The project's findings will help inform the development of a robust carbon credits program that supports local communities and contributes to Myanmar's environmental conservation goals.
