As part of the Securing and Protecting Investments and Capacities for Environmental Sustainability (SPICES) programme, this project focuses on developing an agroforestry strategy and action plan informed by soil carbon assessments conducted at various sites. The initiative integrates scientific data with local knowledge to promote sustainable land-use practices and community-driven agroforestry efforts, contributing to environmental sustainability and economic development.

Focused on Bheriganga Rural Municipality in Surkhet, Nepal, the project involves extensive field assessments, community consultations and soil health data collection to inform the agroforestry strategy. It reviews public land-use policies to support pro-poor economic activities and develops guidelines for integrating agroforestry into local governance frameworks. Training programs for municipal authorities and forest user groups ensure the effective implementation of these policies, fostering long-term sustainability, improved livelihoods and a stronger connection between conservation efforts and community well-being.
