Conflict over the management of forest landscapes can be destructive on many levels. This is particularly worrying considering the prevalence of these types of conflicts throughout the Asia-Pacific region. The conflicts vary in their causes, intensity and impacts. The situation is often exacerbated by the low capacities of the key actors involved or affected by these conflicts to address them effectively, leading to significant costs for government and private sector, and even more so for local communities.
Since its establishment in 1987, RECOFTC – The Center for People and Forests has been developing the capacities of key stakeholders to transform forest landscape conflicts. RECOFTC’s capacity development program in this area emphasises maximizing the positive outcomes from a conflict situation.
