On 14 and 15 January 2026, RECOFTC Viet Nam organized a policy dialogue and business exchange under the ‘Chain of changes’ project.
The event, ‘Policy dialogue and value chain linkages to promote sustainable coffee business’, brought together 54 participants from coffee companies, cooperatives, government agencies, academic institutions, local communities and non-governmental organizations from Lam Dong and neighbouring provinces.
Discussions focused on emerging policies and market requirements for sustainable coffee, with particular attention to the European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR). Truong Tat Do, from the EUDR unit of the Department of Forestry and Forest Protection, outlined the implications of EUDR compliance for the coffee sector and its role in supporting broader agricultural sustainability objectives. Bui Duc Hao, sustainable coffee expert at Tuan Loc Commodities, shared practical guidance on meeting EUDR requirements.
A rapid survey conducted during the meeting showed that approximately 35 per cent of participating enterprises lack effective access to policy information. Key constraints identified included limited access to capital, market linkages, and inadequate processing equipment.
Participants called for wider dissemination of policy information and for credit mechanisms better suited to micro, small and medium-sized enterprises. During a peer exchange session, 21 enterprises, cooperatives and coffee traders exchanged contacts, discussed potential business collaboration and explored opportunities to strengthen coffee value chain linkages.
