Facilitator's Manual for conducting capacity-building training workshops on equitable governance in conservation

Modules: effective participation in decision-making, transparency and accountability

Developed under the Scaling-up Equitable Governance in Area-Based Conservation (SEGA) project, this Nepali Capacity Building Facilitators' Manual supports training cum workshops on two key principles of equitable governance: Effective participation in decision-making (Module 1) and Transparency and accountability (Module 2). The manual was designed in response to governance gaps and capacity building needs identified through the Site-level Assessment of Governance and Equity (SAGE) conducted across protected and conserved areas in Nepal.

The manual serves as a practical resource for facilitators, government representatives, protected area authorities, community forest user groups, Indigenous Peoples, local communities and other conservation stakeholders. Using participatory and experiential learning approaches, it builds understanding of equitable governance and its principles, relevant legal and policy frameworks, stakeholder roles and responsibilities. The aim is collaborative action planning that leads to more inclusive, transparent and accountable governance of protected and conserved areas.
