RECOFTC is facilitating a multi-stakeholder platform on transformative land investment to identify shared priorities and actions.
In Myanmar, RECOFTC is working with private, civil society and non-governmental entities in the agriculture and forestry sectors to support collaboration and build trust through a multi-stakeholder platform (MSP) on transformative land investment.
The MSP is laying critical groundwork for setting strategic direction to strengthen responsible practice for land-based investors. At the second MSP meeting organized in May 2024, stakeholders identified five priority issues that they can realistically address. These include limited support for good agriculture practice; low adoption of sustainable practices; potential misuse of free, prior and informed consent (FPIC); inadequate processing technology for waste reduction and circular production; and resource gaps for community development.
The MSP will work to strengthen FPIC, review land-related legal instruments and support sustainable agricultural practices. RECOFTC facilitated the process, building on earlier assessments and action plans developed through the Transformative Land Investment project and associated communities of practice.
Transforming land investment means empowering vulnerable communities to create sustainable food systems where their rights are respected, livelihoods are strengthened, and the environment is sustained.
